Video Education Improves Understanding and Decision-making about Lung Cancer Screening – Another Reason More Health Enterprises are Adopting MeU CARE’s Breakthrough Multimedia, Multidirectional Communication Platform

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer in the United States, and smoking is the most important risk factor for developing it. Despite leading to early diagnosis and fewer lung cancer deaths among smokers, rates for low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) lung cancer screening remained low. CMS coverage for the life-saving lung cancer screening requires patients receive information about its benefits and harms, so a recent study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) looked at the effectiveness of educational materials on current and recently quit smokers. The study found that smokers who received a video about LDCT lung cancer screening were better prepared to make a screening decision, reported lower decisional conflict, and had greater knowledge of the harms and benefits of screening than those who received a standard printed brochure.

Having designed a mobile multimedia communication platform to increase access to important VISUAL health education and information for patients and their family caregivers, MeU Care appreciates that disseminating the LDCT lung cancer screening video through smoking cessation programs could reach a large number of potentially eligible smokers in the United States, increasing screening rates and saving lives.
