People living with mental illness are increasingly open to using mobile apps that gather data to aid their treatment plan.

Smartphone use has been estimated at approximately 77% of the US population. With the need to expand access to and effectiveness of mental health care services, researchers are looking to innovative programs that put smart phones to use. A recent study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found that 84 percent of surveyed patients living with mental illness were willing to use apps that would collect, track and share data related to phone habits, specific behaviors bio markers (such as blood pressure) and even location through GPS.
